US e-cigarette company to open offices in the canton
According to the Swiss economic journal Handelszeitung, the controversial US e-cigarette manufacturing company, which sells its products under the Juul brand, is to open offices in the city after the entry Juul Labs Switzerland GmbH was noticed to have been included in the official Registry of Companies on Monday 24 September.
It was not long ago that officers from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided the company’s offices at its headquarters in San Francisco, taking away a large number of documents to enable them to look more closely at the controversial marketing methods of the start-up company; these have been targeting youngsters, and under-age ones, too, to persuade them to buy both its nicotine products and steam-based ones, so-called “Juulpods”, which look like USB sticks (photographs). However, the company’s website clearly warns their products contain nicotine and the fact that this is an addictive chemical. On another page it points out its youth prevention initiatives.
The matter of age restriction in relation to the purchase of tobacco products and the latest developments in this area is currently being carefully considered by Swiss manufacturers of such products, the national government here planning to introduce legislation to prevent youngsters from buying them.
