Unemployment
The economic slump has given noticeably more work to the employment agencies in canton Zug. Alone in December there were 157 newly unemployed. Compared to the previous month, unemployment rose around 0,3 per cent to 2,1 per cent.
Like all central Swiss cantons, Zug is however still clearly under the national average (see table). In Switzerland in 2008 there was a total of 118,762 people registered as unemployed. Unemployment numbers have not seen such an increase since seven years. In central Switzerland unemployment increased particularly in the construction industry and in industry. Whether the higher numbers will be permanent, one will only be able to measure probably in the Spring.
