Two women from Balkan States fined and deported

Two women from the Balkan states were arrested after they were found to have been working illegally in premises used as an illegal gambling den; the man who ran the joint can also expect to be prosecuted.

The police raided the premises at an address which has not been disclosed at the end of October and came across gaming terminals and related equipment including amounts of cash.

The two women, both 23-year-olds, one from Serbia the other from Croatia, were found to have been working as waitresses without being in possession of the appropriate permits. In fast-track proceedings they appeared before a judge who imposed conditional fines on them and ordered both to leave the country forthwith, the Serbian additionally banned from returning to Switzerland or any Schengen state within two years.

The 46-year-old who employed them can now expect to be charged in relation to offences under the Aliens and Gaming Acts.

Furthermore, a 22-year-old at the club was found to be in possession of an illegal airsoft gun and can expect to be charged in accordance with offences under the Firearms Act. The carrying of such weapons in public is only allowed if the holder has a licence or in connection with a sports shooting event. The offence is deemed even more serious if the weapon appears to resemble a real firearm.
