Two pedestrians injured on crossing

A 62-year-old woman suffered a broken arm and another 59-year-old one suffered bruising after the latter was hit by a car while on a pedestrian crossing in the municipality on Friday.

The incident happened shortly before 6.30 pm that evening as three women were crossing Leihgasse near the point where it merges into Rigistrasse.

A car suddenly appeared and knocked the 59-year-old to the ground, leading to her sustaining bruises and grazing. As she fell, she knocked over the 62-year-old, who sustained a broken arm. Fortunately, a third women pedestrian involved escaped injury.

When the police arrived on the scene, they noticed the 62-year-old driver of the car was showing signs of having driven under the influence of alcohol, an offence he admitted. His licence was confiscated on the spot and he was taken to hospital to provide a blood sample.

In a further road traffic matter, police stopped a driver at a checkpoint in Cham last Thursday evening only to find he was driving whilst being banned from doing so. The 33-year-old admitted he had driven whilst banned on previous occasions, too. He can now expect a further ban of several months.
