Train chaos
Due to a malfunctioning overhead contact wire between Horgen, Oberdorf and Zug, trains were not able to run on that stretch of track, causing delays, cancellations and detours yesterday. The problem started at noon.
Travellers between Zurich and Central Switzerland needed a lot of patience Thursday afternoon. The break-down effected both the S-Bahn trains and the long-haul trains. Trains to Ticino and Zurich were re-routed over Wohlen/Rotkreuz, said the SBB. The connection Lucerne-Airport Zurich turned back in time, and buses transported people back and forth from Zug to Thalwil. The S21 was cancelled. Delays were experienced on the S-Bahn trains S2, S8 and S24. The S9, which runs between Zug and Zurich via Affoltern am Albis, was uneffected and ran as usual. From 1.15 p.m. the S1 resumed its’ normal schedule
After repairs as well as test-runs, the stretch was back in operation around 3.30 p.m. The cause of the malfunctioning overhead contact wire is being investigated.
