The talking Zytturm in Zug
In the city of Zug an old tradition should be revived: like the fire wardens did hundreds of years ago, soon the time will be called out from the top of the 52 meter high Zytturn (Zyt Tower).
“Now the Zytturm speaks” is the winning project of the “Wir sind Zug” (We are Zug) contest with a prize of 8,000 francs, as Radio Pilatus announced. In addition, the projects for a kid’s circus and a reading marathon were also awarded prizes. 55 projects in total were submitted.
The 52 meter high landmark with its blue and white tiled roof stands out in the old town center of Zug. The landmark originates from the middle of the 13th Century. In the year 1574 the large clock was added, to which the tower owes also its name.
Shaping our City
“Wir sind Zug” is a co-development project of the Zuger Town Development and encourages the population to help shape their city. The winning projects will be financed by private and/or by the city and will be carried out. In that way the quality of life and the attractiveness of the city of Zug is increased and Zug remains a popular place to live and work .
«1000 Kirschbäume für Zug» (1000 Cherry trees for Zug) was the winning project last year and was launched in the Summer 2008 with a balloon contest, a revival of the Cherry Market on the Landesgemeindeplazt and the ringing of the „Chriesiglogga (Cherry bell) for the first time in over 200 years
