Teacher trio competes with Fasnacht celebrations

Three music teachers from the Hünenberg Music School gave a memorable concert in the Ehret Hall in Hünenberg on Friday evening.

The three tutors, Kateryna Timokhina on violin, Simon William Lewis on the horn and Gabriella Adorjan on the piano played very well together despite only having practised for a short time prior to the concert, the centre piece of which was a highly successful rendering of the Trios Opus 40 by Johannes Brahms.

Timokhina's perfect performance showed how she was able to convey all moods of musical expression and Adorjan's contribution was enhanced by being able to play on a grand piano, while Lewis' sensitive control over his instrument meant his playing could be powerful while not too obtrusive. Only in the adagio part would a more reserved style have improved the overall effect.

The concert started with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's KV 301 sonata for piano and violin with a particularly lively first movement. There then followed Hebrew Melody by Joseph Achron (1866 -1943) and the Laudatio for single horn by Bernhard Krol (born in 1920), spoilt only by the unfortunate bell-ringing of a neighbouring church.

As an encore the trio played a piece in humorous mood by György Ligeti (1923-2006). Had the concert not coincided with the attractions of Fasnacht, the strikingly young audience would no doubt have been considerably larger.
