Simpson leads Lions to glory

Sean Simpson, the coach who steered EV Zug to their only NLA championship to date in 1998, has added some more – highly impressive – silverware to his trophy cabinet. On Tuesday night at the Diners Club Arena in Rapperswil, Simpson's Zurich Lions beat Metallurg Magnitogorsk 5-0 in the second leg of the Champions League final to win 7-2 overall.

 

The 48-year-old Canadian was Zug coach during two stints, the second time (from 2003-2008) with Colin Muller, who was part of the EVZ 1998 championship-winning team as a player, as his assistant. Muller followed Simpson to Zurich this season to continue as his assistant.
