Sighting of suspicious-looking car leads to driver being arrested
The reporting of a suspicious-looking car by an alert local in Baar led to the arrest of its driver and his subsequent deportation to Germany where he was wanted by police.
It was shortly after 7.30 pm on the evening of Monday 3 September that a local resident called police after she noticed a suspicious-looking car with German number plates in the Neugut area of the municipality.
When the Zug police came to inspect it, and sought to ascertain who owned it, it turned out that its owner, a 20-year-old Iranian national, was wanted by the German police. It was while they were examining the vehicle that the owner himself turned up, having arrived there in a hire car in order to tow his own car away as it had a mechanical problem.
When the Zug police contacted their counterparts in Germany, they were told the young man was wanted there for his involvement in crimes such as breach of the peace and bodily harm during protests which took place in Hamburg on 7 July 2017 when world leaders were gathering for the G-20 summit meeting there.
The German police called for his extradition and, as he raised no objection, the Iranian was duly deported following fast-track proceedings on 10 September.
