Police warns: Ice is not yet thick enough!

Despite the cold temperatures, so far none of the water surfaces in the canton have thick enough ice. The Zuger police is expressly warning people not to walk on the ice that has already formed on some lakes. Specialists from the Zuger police are checking the existing ice thicknesses. Although on some waters already smaller ice areas have formed, these are still not accessible, according to a Police press release. To release an ice surface for the public, a few more days with cold temperatures are needed. The next measurements will be taken at the earliest on Monday (5 January 2009). The release of frozen waters takes place after control via the Zuger police in close collaboration with the municipality authorities. The municipalities are responsible for blocking the ice surfaces.  Watch for the posted signs and adhere to the warnings.
