Police dog Ike sniffs out stolen bag

In a routine patrol near the lake shore, police dog Ike sniffed out a discarded handbag which had been stolen at the end of August.

The Belgian sheepdog was on a routine patrol with its handler at around 11 am on Thursday when it sniffed out a man’s handbag in thick undergrowth.

When its handler looked inside, he found various bankcards and ID cards which enabled the owner to be contacted.

He said his bag had been stolen from his car when parked by the harbour as he was scooping water out of his boat. He was very relieved to have it returned after having given up all hope of ever seeing it again.
