New school model
A pilot project for a new school model is planned in canton Zug. The idea is that classes from kindergarten to the 10th grade will consist of children from varying ages who will be taught together (as opposed to the current system where children of the same age are taught together in one class).
German model
The Zuger pilot project orientates itself to the German model school in Bielefeld. There, children of all social backgrounds are accepted and up until the 9th grade there are no report cards.
According to the Director of the Office of Education, the Pädigogische Hochschule (PHZ, University) is currently working out a definite concept, which will be ready by the end of the year. At that time the Zuger Office of Education will again address the topic.
It is hoped that the project can be implemented for the 2010/11 school year, or 2011/12 at the latest.
