Managing director of Zug Tourist Board calls it a day

The managing director of the Zug Tourist Board, Nicolas Ludin, has announced he is to resign after having only taken up his role at the end of last April. Now a successor is to be sought to take over from 1 May 2019.

It is thought the 35-year-old, who on his appointment described Zug as a “pearl of a destination” decided to leave prematurely after it became clear certain ambitious plans the board had to promote the canton up to 2025 could not be implemented because of cutbacks, among other reasons.

These plans included promoting the canton as a classical tourist destination in the foothills of the Alps, but, in addition to the financial restraints already mentioned, less income than expected from overnight-stay taxes was able to be raised as fewer and fewer hotel rooms became available, some of them even closing down and turned into business suites for longer occupation for example.

Nevertheless, Ludin did all he could to ensure the board’s deficit was reduced, keeping the board duly informed at all times.

As he said himself, “I took on this role with great enthusiasm in order for my team and myself to be able to implement what the board wanted. At the time I felt sure I would be able to make a most positive contribution to heightening tourism in the canton. However, in recent weeks it became clear to me that the original strategy could not be adhered to, hence my resignation as per the end of April 2019.”
