Locals to vote on new residential and commercial development

The Corporation of Unterägeri has already given its consent to a planned development of residential and commercial properties on land it owns in the municipality and now the public will be able to have its say in a referendum on Sunday 25 November.

This Helgenhüsli development is planned for the green-field site between the existing trading zone and the future Zimel Quarter and will consist of between 20 and 30 residential and commercial units to designs by the Forrer and Gerber firm of architects.

As can be seen in the photograph, the development will consist of eight high-quality buildings with 14 modules presenting a homogenous unit to the exterior yet enabling the greatest flexibility with regard to use, such as workshops, warehouse and offices, as long as no smoke or noise emanates from any of them.

As Gerhard Iten, the chairman of the Corporation, explained, “We thought, for example, a baker might like to take over one of them, perhaps opening a shop or café on the ground floor. It would be nice to have new lively area such as this which is not oriented toward the centre.”

Residential use will be restricted to one third of the development and an underground car park will also be provided, tenants able to work out themselves the layout of the inner courtyards.

Christian Forrer of the afore-mentioned firm of architects said that, if locals gave their assent in the forthcoming referendum, construction of the first stage could start soon afterwards. Residents in the municipality, now almost 10,000 of them, are known to scrutinise any plans for development there very closely.
