Increased health insurance rebates for Zug families

The Zug Health Official Joachim Eder (photo) announced details of the "Prämienverbilligung" (health insurance premium rebates – introduced in Switzerland in 1996 – for households on lower income levels) for 2009 on Wednesday,  with the good news being that the cantonal government had accepted proposals to increase the benefits by between three and five percent. As such, those entitled can expect much bigger rebates in 2009, while families will also benefit from the deduction for children being increased by CHF 200 from CHF 8,300 to CHF 8,500.

CHF 41.1 million are being allocated this year to "Prämienverbilligung", which Eder describes as "no charity hand-outs. This is an essential lightening of the load for over 30,000 people in Zug."

Helping the average wage earners
A study from the Swiss Ministry for Health shows quite markedly how average families will benefit from the increased rebates, which according to Eder was "a conscious decision. What we are also particular pleased about is the fact that the Zug is now one of the leading cantons both in terms of having low health insurance premiums and also for premium rebates."

Anyone wishing to apply for health insurance premium rebates should hand their form in to the local authority by 30 April 2009 at the latest along with the necessary paperwork.
