Helgenhüsli development gets the go-ahead

Locals in Unterägeri voted by 1,434 to 1,176 for the construction of the Helgenhüsli residential and commercial development (main photograph) on a green-field site owned by the Corporation on Sunday.

In addition to this, three national referenda took place that day, the chart (second photograph) showing the results in the canton.

In the left-hand columns, the results show there was little support for a dairy farmer from the Jura region of the canton of Bern, Armin Capaul (third photograph), who felt that the removal of the horns from cattle and goats took away their dignity and that those farmers who did not remove them should get increased subsidy from the state. Had it been accepted, greater space would have been needed for horned cattle in sheds, and there was increased risk of injury for farmers, such as nasty poke in the eye.

In the centre two columns, it can be seen that the initiative supported mainly by the SVP party to ensure Swiss law prevailed over international law was also rejected, opponents feeling legal certainty would have been lessened and much confusion caused.

In the two columns on the right-handside, it can be seen cantonal residents voted overwhelmingly in support of detectives being able to be deployed to investigate cases where it was thought social insurance was being unfairly claimed.

In each case the results in Zug reflected those of the nation as a whole.
