Feed the birds, but do it right
The continuous cold weather and the snow make it difficult for birds to cope. Especially insect-eating birds and birds of prey are concerned, according to a communication from Birdlife Switzerland. Correct feeding of the birds is therefore welcome. By putting up a birdhouse and putting out a grain mixture, rolled oats and raisons or hanging up bird “nut bars” or “Meisenknödel” one will be able to observe up to 15 kinds of birds. Blackbirds like apples as well. The fodder should be protected against rains, however, and the birds should not be able to sit in the fodder because of the threat of spreading diseases. Finally, the feeding area should be safe from cats and be in the proximity of trees and bushes for refuge.
