Family allowances
The new family allowance law, which will be treated in the 1st and 2nd quarter of this yearly in the cantonal parliament, is designed to give clarity to the issue. It will be regulated who is responsible for disbursement of the allowance and, more important, who should receive the allowance, especially when both parents work part-time, one parent works in another canton or when it is a patchwork family. It is important to know that only 100 per cent of family allowances is paid out - which parents receive this is regulated by Federal law.
A certain authority remains nevertheless with the cantons. For example, the amount of the allowance, the introduction of birth and/or adoption allowance.
Allowance already starting from 15 years?
The advisory commission primarily discussed the monthly education allowance. It was suggested that up til the age of 17, 300 francs, from the age of 18, 350 francs would be paid. A minority demanded an age reduction to 15. or 16. The request was rejected.
