Driver involved in city-centre collision had taken cocaine
Tests on one driver of a car involved in a collision in the city centre on Monday indicated he had been consuming cocaine.
The road traffic accident occurred shortly after 3.45 pm as a 33-year-old woman driver intended to turn left into Gotthardstrasse from Poststrasse. However, she failed to give way to a car which had priority approaching on Gotthardstrasse. In the ensuing collision the woman driver escaped injury, but the driver of the other car sustained slight injuries.
When the police arrived on the scene they suspected the 23-year-old driver involved had been driving under the influence of drink or drugs and when a quick drugs test was administered this showed he had indeed been driving under the influence of cocaine and he was duly taken to hospital to provide blood and urine tests. Not unsurprisingly, his driving licence was confiscated on the spot and he can expect to be charged for the offence, as can the woman for the offence she committed.
