Canton welcomes new police officers to its force

In all, thirteen new policemen and women were welcomed into the cantonal force at a ceremony held last week. They include five who only recently qualified, namely Stefanie Ackermann (31), Marina Bühlmann (24), Carmen Kupper (27), Romeo Schwegler (24) and Lukas von Flüe (30), who all graduated from the Hitzkirch Inter-cantonal Police College in August, two of them coming to Zug from another canton.

In addition, the new head of the criminal investigation department, three security assistants and two specialist officers were formally welcomed into the ranks by police constable Karl Walker, who is to retire at the end of November.

At the ceremony, each of the new members of the police force stepped forward individually, touched the blue-and-white cantonal flag and promised to do their duty to the people of Zug in front of Beat Villiger, the director of public safety in the canton, and some 100 relatives and friends.

Villiger, a member of the cantonal government, said that, in opting for a career with the police, the new recruits had chosen a career with a future, public safety being an important cornerstone of Zug as a location, providing the basis as it did for a high quality of life.
