Bad air quality
Already once this year, in January, the maximum permissible value of respirable dust was exceeded. The reason is the weather. For winter sportsmen and women in higher altitudes the respirable dust gives them a high feeling, for the people under the blanket of fog it bestows however bad air.
The fog is like a blanket and prohibits the exchange of air between the lower and upper layers. Since the Spring of 2006 when a trial was made to reduce smog by reducing speed on the motorway to 80 kph, there has not been an inter-cantonal approach: if at three measuring stations within three days certain limits are exceeded then action will be taken. So far this hasn’t been the case.
