A4 Motorway to be six-lanes

The Swiss Federal Department for Environment, Traffic, Energy and Communication (UVEK) issued  the building permit to widen the A4 motorway to six lanes between the by-passes Blegi in Cham and Rütihof in Holzhäusern.

In Spring 2004 canton Zug petitioned the federal authorities in Berne for approval of a general project for a 6-lane motorway. After receiving the building permit the Zug Building Department worked out an execution plan . The plans were made available to the public during the Summer 2007 and altogether 33 objections were submitted. By the beginning of 2008 and after negotiations, around half of the objections were retracted. On Tuesday, January 6, the UVEK issued the permit to go ahead with construction. The remainder of the objections were rejected, except for two, which were approved, according to a press release from the Zug Building Department

The A4 will therefore be widened to six lanes between the bypasses Blegi in Cham and Rütihof in Holzhäusern (municipality Risch). A widening of the bicycle and pedestrian bridge at the by-pass Blegi as well as re-foresting of a private parcel were approved. Objections against the UVEK decision can be submitted to the Federal Administrative Court within 30 days. After 30 days objections can also be submitted to the Supreme Court. Construction will commence next year at the earliest. Thus the Zug motorway section will still be four-lanes when the motorway in Knoaueramt opens in the Fall.
