Driver pulls over onto hard shoulder of A4a motorway just in time

A driver had a lucky escape on Monday evening after her car burst into flames on the A4a motorway.

The incident happened shortly before 6.30pm as the woman was on the motorway proceeding towards Baar. She became aware of a sudden noise so decided to pull over onto the hard shoulder. When she saw smoke coming out of the engine compartment, she called the emergency services, flames enveloping the front of the car only moments later.

The fire brigade duly extinguished the blaze, which is thought to have been caused by a technical problem.
