Death announced of founder of Medela company

The death has been announced of Olle Larsson, who founded the Medela medical technology company, at the age of 89.

Like his wife, Doris Larsson-Rosenquist, he grew up in the Twenties in southern Sweden. It was in 1955 that they moved to Zug, where their sons Göran and Michael were born. They soon acclimatised to their new homeland, taking Swiss nationality in 1969.

Larsson has been described as a born entrepreneur and, although he had initially worked for another organisation, he went on to set up his own company manufacturing medical technical appliances in Baar in the early Sixties.

For decades now, Medela, with an annual turnover of some CHF 600 million, has been the market leader in its field, employing 1,700 in all, 440 of whom work here in Zug.

Over the course of the years, Larsson acquired other companies operating in this area and invested much money in research and development. It was in 2001 that all them became part of the Olle Larsson Holding AG company. Furthermore, the Larsson-Rosenquist Family Foundation was set up to enable all children of the world to enjoy the best possible start in life by benefiting from breast milk, Medela being very well known for its production of breast pumps.

A funeral service for Karl Olof Axel Helmer Larsson is to be held at 3pm on Monday 30 July at St Michael’s church in the city.
