Considerable risk of wildland fire

With this long spell of hot dry weather, it is only expected that there is a risk of wildland fires both in woodland and other areas.

Indeed, with no significant rainfall of late, much vegetation, twigs and branches lying on the forest floor are very easily set on fire. Hence there is concern that a discarded cigarette-end or unextinguished remains a of barbecue could lead to a fire and all the consequences this would mean.

As a result, the Cantonal Office of Forestry and Wildlife along with the Zug Insurance Corporation and Fire Brigade have issued guidelines which should be followed at present.

These include making sure:
fires are only made in places specially designated for them
the fire is under control at all times
any sparks emanating from fires are extinguished immediately
any fire is fully extinguished before you leave the area
no smoking-related items are left around
no fireworks are let off near woodland areas and that manufacturers’ instructions are adhered to
no fire lanterns are lit
no forest undergrowth catches fire

In fact if it is windy, it is best not to make a fire in the first place.
