Christmas is in the air....our shopping guide for you...

The lights are twinkling, decorations are up and we can start planning what to buy for whom. Shopping lists are being formulated and it’s time to decide who’s been naughty and nice.  Considering you might only want to find nice treats for your loved ones this year, we came up with some luxurious and unique ideas. ’Tis the season to think locally and support our Zug business owners. Don’t forget, either, for even more shopping fun, in December there will be special openings on two weekends before Christmas. From Zug to Walchwil and all the towns in between, stores will be open on Saturday, December 8th (Maria Conception, usually a public holiday in Canton Zug) and Sunday, December 23rd. There are so many choices out there, this list is just the beginning.

For the ornament collector with a big heart
These hand painted ornaments come to you via Terre de Hommes, an organization that is dedicated to helping children worldwide. There is a series of seven ornaments with Zug themes: Zytturm, Burg Zug, Rathaus, Kolinbrunnen, Kapuzinerturm, Zuger Altstadt and Rathaus Baar, in addition to a new ornament titled Münz Zug. Münz is the German word for coin. All proceeds from this year’s Christmas ornament will go to help children and their families affected by Nepal’s 2015 earthquake. Contact Terre de Hommes 079 459 23 22, luthiger@bluewin.ch form more information on where they can be bought.

For the discerning spirits consumer
Why not give the gift of Zug fruits in liquid form? Straight from the Etter distillery, their fruit brandies have been around for generations, and for good reason. The Etter family is dedicated to quality and tradition. They have a special Christmas plum brandy (Weihnachtspflümli 18% Vol.) on offer at the moment. A perfect accompaniment to your holiday gatherings and meals:

For your favorite grown up chocoholic
ChickenHill Whiskey in Hunenberg has been making and selling its specialized spirit since 1999. The Limacher family started with gourmet butchery and eventually brought whiskey to Hunenberg. Now while you could buy a nice bottle as a gift, we think it would be even more worthwhile to consider some delicious chocolate truffles. Handcrafted and filled with the distinctive flavor of their single malt Swiss whiskey. Discover more here.

For the game players on your list
Who wouldn’t want a classic board game but with a special twist? Go straight to Wunderbox in the Altstadt and buy an edition of Zug Monopoly! What better way to spend Christmas afternoon with the family, than by buying up properties and going around the board in our favorite Swiss stadt? And if you’ve got a hankering for a real-life tour around Zug, while you’re in the store, ask for the Zytturm key to get you started. Show visitors the best view in Zug by taking them up into the clock tower.

For the man who has everything
Sometimes special occasions call for special gifts. If you’ve got a gentleman in your life that enjoys cigars, then you need to check out Cigars and More AG. Located on Allmendstrasse 14, this combination store/bar/lounge has the largest walk in humidifier in the Canton of Zug. In addition they also offer a large selection of rums and single malt whiskies. But their specialty is the handmade cigars. Find your favorites here.

For the woman who has everything
Forget another stylish bag or beautiful scarf this year. Treat your special lady to a day at the spa. But not just any spa! Splurge on an experience at the Buergenstock Resort. With breathtaking views and a first class alpine spa (with more than five different pools to enjoy), this is a gift she will truly appreciate. A hot stone massage for 90 minutes starts at 250CHF. Or maybe she’d prefer a variety of treatments…with products from La Prairie, Ligne St Barth or Susanne Kaufmann, she will feel like royalty. Click here for all the resort has to offer.

For the grandparents
Give them a gift they will cherish, and maybe start an annual tradition. Schedule a seasonal Christmas photo of your family or just the kids. Photo Optik Grau is offering a mini-shooting where the backgrounds will reflect this festive time of year. This offer is only good through December 15th, so you’ll be sure to have it ready and wrapped by the big day. Oma and Opa will be delighted!

For those who prefer an experience over a wrapped gift:
Get your family and friends together and head to InsideBreakout right in the heart of Zug. This strategic escape room will keep you working together and in a state of suspense. There are two themed rooms to choose from and can take up to six players per game. Nominated this year in Zug’s Young Entrepreneurs competition, this is an experience uniquely suited for young and old alike.

For your favorite work person
The holidays mean more opportunities for entertaining. But many of us are so busy, it’s not always possible to plan and host the perfect party. Good thing there’s
The Spirit Company in Baar. They have just the solution: BOHEMIAN DRINKS are classic, vintage cocktails that have been made from the same recipes for over 100 years. Your favorite work friend will appreciate their stylish presentation, convenience and the fact that with 13 iconic drinks to choose from, their next event will become a special occasion. These bottled, ready-to-drink cocktails can be enjoyed anywhere, anytime. Cheers!

You might find everything you need in one weekend; which would be a wonderful start to the holiday season. Happy Shopping!
