Canton's Rich List 2018

Last week the Bilanz finance magazine published a list of the 300 richest people in the country, of whom 62 live in central Switzerland.

There follows a list of the richest people resident in the canton of Zug.

Top of the list is the Brenninkmeijer family of the C&A textile company, some of whom are resident in the canton of Lucerne, with assets amounting to between CHF15 and 16 billion.

They are followed by Russian investor Viktor Vekselberg (photograph) who has a personal fortune of between CHF10 and 11 billion. There then follow three directors of the Partners Group of Baar, namely M. Erni, A. Gantner and U. Wietlisbach, some of whom live in the canton of Schwyz, who have assets amounting to between CHF 5-6 billion. Hans-Peter Wild of the Capri-Sonne company comes next at between CHF 3.5 and 4 billion. The fortune owned by the Burkard family, the descendants of the founder of what became the Sika company, amounts to between CHF 3-3.5 billion.

Next on the list are heirs to the Swarowski fortune at between CHF 2.5 and 3 billion, followed by Aristotelis Mistakidis of Glencore with assets of between CHF1.5-2 billion. Glencore’s CEO, Ivan Glasenberg, does not feature in this list as he lives in the canton of Zurich but he, too, is thought to have amassed a fortune of between CHF 5-6 billion.

Members of the Bossard family come next with a fortune estimated to be between CHF 350-400 million, the same amount amassed by Daniel Vasella, the former CEO of Novartis. There then comes Henri B. Meier, the former CFO of Roche, with assets of between CHF 250-300million.

Twelfth on the list for Zug, in 52nd place in central Switzerland, is Ariel Lüdi of the Hybris company, with a fortune estimated to be between CHF 150-200 million.

The last name on the list for Zug, 55th on the list for central Switzerland, is Kimi Räikkönen of Formula One fame, with a fortune of between CHF 150-200 million.
