Beware of English-speaking trickster workmen

The Zug Police have issued a warning to locals about a group of tricksters, self-styled workmen, who are going around offering to do a number of repair jobs and going on to demand a much higher price than the one agreed.

It has been reported in a number of municipalities how these men, driving around in foreign-registered vehicles, are cold-calling on householders to ask if they need any jobs doing, such as cleaning flagstones on drives or replacing broken tiles on roofs, things they may have noticed themselves, and all at a strikingly cheap price.

What happens next is that, while the job is still in progress or has been completed, a much higher price is demanded, the excuse being that special tools had to be brought in or that the work took longer than expected.

It has been discovered, too, that the work they have done has been shoddy, or not that which was agreed to.

As mentioned, several groups are men are doing the rounds of the canton, all dressed up as workmen, asking for jobs when not suggesting it themselves, and speaking English.

Remember this if you are tempted to engage them.
