A Matura thesis with good cause

Patricia Hager (17) is in her final year at the Kantonsschule Zug. For her Matura thesis, the student had decided to organise a food festival that is taking place in the Shedhalle Zug this Saturday, 20 October. Planned are seven stalls offering a range of international cuisines such as Thai and Swedish food.

The idea is that visitors discover a wide range of foods with cultural importance. The event also serves a charitable purpose: the entire proceeds will ultimately be donated to the Zuwebe. Hence the event name "Food for Good".

Event planning as a thesis

Since mid-January Patricia Hager had the desire to organise an event. "For my final assignment, I decided to organise an event. I was pretty convinced of my idea," says the 17-year-old. As she is not talented musically, she prefers a food festival to a concert. "I like food and am convinced that many people share my opinion," says Patricia Hager with a grin. "I am relieved that I engaged with my idea early enough. The necessary permits were at times difficult to obtain." These are strictly required half a year prior to the scheduled event date.

Linking the event with a donation was and remains a priority for Patricia Hager. Her entire work is oriented regionally. For instance, the thesis is being written for the Kantonsschule Zug, the stoves and ovens are provided by V-Zug, and all the cooks are from the region as well. Due to this regional focus, the Matura student also wanted to find a non-profit organisation that works for the good of Zug. As such, the Zuwebe was selected. "The decision was equally practical because the Zuwebe operates its own restaurant in Zug, named Intermezzo." The Intermezzo team will prepare crêpes on Saturday. "The preparation had its ups and downs," explains Patricia Hager. "From time to time there were obstacles, but every commitment, be it from a cook, a sponsor or any other organisation, motivated me to keep planning. These also helped me believe that this event is actually doable. Such moments were very welcome during the planning phase." On Saturday, the student will be rewarded for her extensive work. "I am looking forward to finally seeing the final outcome of my project. For me, the main goal is of course the highest possible proceeds for the Zuwebe. For the visitors, I wish them a pleasant time and a successful discovery of international cuisines."
