Zug Chamber Ensemble celebrates its 35th anniversary

The Zuger Kammerensemble was formed in 1981 and since this time it has made a major contribution to the cultural life of the canton.

The ensemble is actually made up of professional musicians from the orchestra of Zurich Opera House, the Tonhalle Orchestra, also of Zurich, and lecturers at cantonal music schools. What is particularly striking about them is that they adhere to the old tradition of playing without a conductor, the first violinist taking charge. However, they do use modern as opposed to old instruments.

Sometimes the ensemble performs with as few as just three players, while at other times they appear as a complete chamber orchestra, performing works by Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart and Haydn to mention just a few. They are also known for playing works not so often performed.

A start on celebrating this 35th anniversary year was made in June when Sabine Pyé Morel played on the flute and Natalia Chybiak on the violoncello. Later this year, in November, Nuria Rial (soprano) and Marie-Claude Chappuis (alto) will be singing with the ensemble, including in a performance of Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, and works by Johann Sebastian Bach.

One of these concerts will be performed in the Pfarrkirche in Unterägeri at 5 pm on Saturday 12 November with the next in St Martin’s Church in Baar at 7 pm on Sunday 13 November.
