Warning of seven-day closure of Zugerstrasse

The Cantonal Department of Planning has announced that trees along Zugerstrasse between Sihlbrugg and the Hirzel will have to be felled as they represent a danger to traffic. As a result, the road is having to be closed to all traffic from 5 am on Monday 20 October until 5 am on Monday 27 October.

The actual area affected is that between Schiffli and Chelen. During this week, traffic normally using this route will have to go on a lengthy detour through the valley of the River Sihl and Thalwil.

While some trees will have to be felled, the work will mean the woodland will have the opportunity of rejuvenating itself and this in turn will lead to less surface erosion and less risk of landslide. In addition to trees being felled, the supporting wall in Schiffli is also to be repaired.

In fact there are likely to be short delays between 8 am and 4 pm on weekdays on Zugerstrasse even after 27 October as further work is undertaken. Marshals will be on duty to direct traffic at these times.
