Two women arrested and several thousands of francs confiscated

Two women have been arrested and several thousands of francs confiscated by police after they searched through a coffee-bar in Baar where evidence of illegal gambling on sport was found.

As the police searched through the premises of the Balkan-Net bar on Neuhausgasse in the municipality (photograph) late on Wednesday evening, they came across a number of gaming terminals and computers linked to gambling on sport in addition to high four-figure sums of cash, all of which was confiscated.

The landlady of the premises, a 35-year-old Serbian national, is now to be charged with offences relating to illegal gambling and organising unauthorised lotteries.

Two waitresses at the restaurant, one 21 years of age and the other a 29-year-old, also Serbs, were also arrested on the premises for failing to have the required work permits. They were handed over to the immigration authorities and can expect not only to be deported but also banned from ever returning to Switzerland again.
