Two barns burned to the ground

Two barns burnt to the ground in a major fire in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Fortunately no-one was injured and 100 cattle were able to be led to safety

It was just before 4.15 am when a farmer in the Stadelmatt area called the emergency services after he spotted a fire in a shed. Moments later a nearby outbuilding and a barn were ablaze. Fortunately, with the help of the emergency services, the farmer was able to lead 100 cattle, both cows and calves, to safety.

Thanks to their swift action, units from the Risch and Hünenberg fire service managed to prevent other buildings, including the farmhouse itself, from catching fire. In all, 130 firemen attended the scene, and, after an exhausting and lengthy operation, they managed to ensure the fire was out by 8 am.

The police are now looking in to the cause of the fire though there is no evidence of arson.

It is not yet certain how much damage was caused in financial terms, though it will be a considerable sum.
