Three people slightly injured in three separate accidents on A4a motorway

Three people were slightly injured with damage amounting to hundreds of thousands of francs in three separate accidents on the A4a motorway on Sunday and Monday.

A 48-year-old learner-driver and her female passenger were both slightly injured in an accident on the stretch of the A4a motorway known as the Blegi curve on Sunday morning (photograph).

It was shortly after 10.30 pm as the learner-driver was manoeuvring to change lanes on the Zurich-bound carriageway that she collided with road furniture, leading them to sustain injuries for which they were treated in hospital. In addition to the vehicle in which they were travelling being totally written off, damage to motorway infrastructure amounted to CHF 6,000.

Not surprisingly, the incident led to congestion building up, not least as a recovery vehicle had to be brought in to remove the damaged car.

Then, on Monday evening, two separate accidents occurred within seconds of each other on the Lucerne-bound carriageway of the A4a.

Both incidents happened just before 5.30 pm on the approach to the Blegi curve as, firstly, a van ran into the rear of the car in front, with two vehicles involved in a similar incident seconds later. As a result, one person had to be taken to hospital for treatment to injuries sustained.

According to the police, damage to the vehicles involved amounted to hundreds of thousands of francs. With only one lane remaining open for ensuing vehicles to pass by, it was not surprising much congestion built up in the early evening rush hour.
