Three cars crash at same spot in quick succession

Within a few minutes of each other, three cars crashed into a wall by the road near Menzingen on Monday morning, with one driver having to be taken to hospital.

According to reports from the Zug Police, the incidents happened shortly before 5.45 am on a left-hand bend on the cantonal road at Finstersee near Menzingen. All three drivers clearly lost control of their vehicle in the winter road conditions and hit the wall, with one of them ending up in an adjoining field.

As a result of the impact, one 47-year-old driver suffered a slight injury to his face and was taken to hospital by the emergency services. In all, damage to all three cars amounted to tens of thousands of francs and traffic was reduced to one lane only at the scene of the accident.

According to Marcel Schlatter, spokesman of the Zug Police, it was pure coincidence that all three drivers lost control of their vehicles at more or less the same place on the icy roads. It was in the same spot that a 24-year-old Bulgarian crashed into the wall on Saturday, though in his case he had been drinking. Then, as previously reported, a 33-year-old woman crashed in the same location on Monday 16 January. Like the Bulgarian, she, too, was found to have had 130 mg of alcohol in her blood.
