Stöckli to open huge sports shop on ground floor of new hotel

While at the moment all appears rather quiet at the building site on Sinserstrasse in Cham (photograph), next week construction should start in earnest again on the new hotel planned for the area.

This 3-star hotel is being developed by the Cononica Management Company of Geneva, who have invested CHF 32 million in the project. When completed it will have 78 double rooms and 47 business suites, which will also be able to be rented out for several weeks or months. It is hoped that, with its proximity to the motorway network and companies based in Zug, the hotel will fill a gap in the market in the area.

If the the building work remains on schedule, the hotel is expected to be completed by December, and by September, the shop areas on the ground floor should be ready for fitting. It is here on Sinserstrasse between the motorway and the Cham-Hünenberg by-pass that the Stöckli ski-manufacturing company plans to open a large Outdoor Sports shop on over 1,400 square metres.

Head of marketing at the Wolhusen-based company, Adrian Albrecht, said, "We have not fixed a definite opening date yet, but this will be announced shortly." The shop will serve as the company's sales centre for the whole of central Switzerland and stock a wide range of items for winter sports, such as skis, snowboards, cross-country skiing equipment, skiing shoes and ski-clothing as well as items for summer sports such as mountain, racing and electric bikes as well as running and trekking equipment. So big will the shop be that it will take up most of length of the ground floor of the hotel as well as extend onto the first floor. Parking will be available both in front of the hotel and in an underground car-park.

The new shop is not just good news for sporting people but also for the shops nearby such as Adidas and Golfers' Paradise, whose managers feel that the new Stöckli shop will bring more customers to them, too.

However, Paul Börlin of the Cham Sports Shop in Zugerstrasse was more concerned about the competition but hopeful that customers would still come to his shop to see makes of skis other than the Stöckli brand. "Fortunately, we do have regular loyal customers," he explained.
