Spate of car accidents in the canton
A series of car accidents occurred over the past few days with three people having to be taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.
The first incident happened on Friday morning at around 7.30 am on Ägeristrasse as a 37-year-old woman was driving towards Baar. As she approached a left-hand bend she lost control over her car (main photograph) and ended up in stream at the bottom of a 15-metre wooded embankment. Despite her injuries, the woman was able to call for the emergency services who had to cut the roof off the car to free her before she could be taken to hospital. Then a pneumatic crane had to be used to retrieve the severely damaged car, which meant closing the road between Talacher and Baar for one hour.
In an unrelated incident at 10.15 am on Friday, a 56-year-old man lost control of a Ferrari on the A4a motorway and hit the crash barrier on the right-hand side as he drove towards Lucerne (second photograph). Fortunately he was not injured in the incident but damage to the extent of CHF 100,000 was caused.
In a separate incident at around 1.30 pm on Friday, a 31-year-old man was injured after being hurled into the air as a car driven by a 55-year-old man hit him while he was on the zebra crossing on Baarerstrasse by Mattenstrasse in the city. The victim was subsequently taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Then, in a further accident, a 24-year-old Bulgarian driver skidded on the snow-covered Menzingen to Finstersee road and crashed into a wall at around 7.30 am on Saturday morning (third photograph). The driver, who was not injured, was breathalysed at the scene and found to have 130 mg of alcohol in his blood, after which he was taken to hospital for a test. His driving licence was confiscated on the spot and his car was totally written-off.
Finally two vans were involved in a collision on the A14 motorway on Sunday morning.
The incident happened shortly after 5.30 am as a 21-year-old Swiss driver was travelling towards Lucerne. As he changed lanes he collided into another van travelling in the same direction. Both vehicles ended up sideways on the carriageway (fourth photograph), which resulted in the motorway between Lindencham and Rütihof being blocked for one-and-a-half hours, with traffic having to be diverted via Cham.
The driver of the vehicle which caused the accident was subsequently found to have been driving with 75 mg of alcohol in his blood. As a result of this and other infringements, his driving licence was confiscated on the spot. He was also slightly injured in the incident.
