Snowplough hit by overtaking car

A car collided with a snowplough in Baar on Tuesday morning, possibly as a result of poor visibility through the windscreen.

The incident happened shortly before 6.30 am on Schochenmühlestrasse as a 53-year-old man was overtaking the snowplough. According to the Zug Police, the accident may have happened because the car driver had failed to free his vehicle's windscreen from ice and snow before setting off.

Fortunately, no-one was injured in the incident but the driver is expected to be charged for the offence. Damage to the extent of several thousand francs was caused.

The Zug Police would like to remind drivers undertaking journeys in wintery conditions that they are bound by law to ensure that their windscreens, mirrors, lights and numberplates must be kept free of ice and snow at all times. Furthermore, no ice or snow must be allowed to fall from the roof of the car or a trailer while being driven. This is why it is advisable to spend some time ensuring visibility is not restricted in any way before setting out.
