Several people injured, one seriously, in spate of accidents

Three people were injured, one seriously so, in a major road traffic accident in Baar on Friday morning.

The incident happened on Ägeristrasse shortly after 9.30 am as a 23-year-old woman driver of a Mazda lost control of her vehicle. For reasons yet unexplained, her vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the road and crashed head-on into an Audi being driven in the opposite direction. This caused the latter vehicle to end up in a nearby brook.

Not long afterwards a Jaguar driven by a 69-year-old man appeared on the scene but he was unable to brake in time and crashed into the Mazda, as a result of which the young woman was seriously injured. She was later flown to hospital by a Rega helicopter (photograph). Both the Jaguar driver and the 54-year-old woman driver of the Audi also sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

As a result, Ägeristrasse was closed for three hours in both directions between Leihgasse and the Talacher roundabout. The Baar Fire Brigade assisted by setting up a detour.

All three vehicles involved were totally written off in the incident with damage amounting to as much as CHF 50,000.

Barely one hour later another accident occurred on the A4a as a 54-year-old woman lost control over her vehicle and hit the crash barrier (second photograph). Fortunately she remained uninjured.

Not long afterwards a 36-year-old van driver drove into the back of the car in front of him near the Rütihof interchange on the A4. In this instance, too, fortunately no one was injured.

Meanwhile, over in Rotkreuz, the 48-year-old woman driver of a ZVB bus failed to notice a 40-year-old postman as he turned right on Bahnhofsplatz and hit him head-on (third photograph). He had to be taken to hospital for the injuries he sustained.

On Friday afternoon an 85-year-old driver lost control over his vehicle as he left the A4a at the Zug exit and ended up in bushes by the side of the road. Fortunately, both he and his lady passengers were not injured. However, the police confiscated his licence in the spot.

Not long afterwards an 82-year-old driver of an old tractor was involved in an accident on Heiligkreuzstrasse in Cham as an 84-year-old driver attempted to overtake him. As he did so, he brushed by the front of the tractor which led it to crash into two parked cars. All four cars involved were damaged.

Later on this same day, shortly after 5.30 pm, a 62-year-old woman was hit and injured by a car driven by a 44 year-old as she walked on a crossing on Dorfstrasse in Baar. As a result she was hurled to the ground and had to be taken to hospital.
