Series of recitals to start this Sunday

Just as one series of organ recitals finished last week, fans of church music will be pleased to know that, over the next few weeks, a number of recitals will be given on the Goll organ (photograph) in the City Church on Alpenstrasse.

Starting on this coming Sunday 5 July, the Zug Society of Friends of Church Music have organised recitals to be played by Hans-Jürgen Studer at 11 am on Sundays until and including 16 August.

Those who enjoy the music of Johann Sebastian Bach will be pleased to know that at least one piece by him will be played at each recital. In fact the fifth and seventh recitals with be dedicated solely to works by him. Other composers whose works will be performed include Dietrich Buxtehude, Eugene Gigout, Théodore Dubois, Louis Nicolas Clérambault, Jean Langlais, Felix Mendelssohn and Charles-Marie Widor.

In addition, there will be one very special concert on Tuesday 28 July at 8 pm, also in the City Church, as this is the 265th anniversary of the death of Johann Sebastian Bach in Leipzig in 1750 (having been born in Eisenach in 1685).

Admission to all concerts is free, though there will be a collection.
