Prosecution service accepts verdict of criminal court

The Zug Prosecution Service has announced it has accepted the length of the sentences imposed on three youths found guilty of a violent attack on a 19-year-old who went on to kill himself three days later.

As previously reported, two 17-year-old youths were given prison sentences of 11 and ten months respectively in relation to the attack on a 19-year-old man on 4 September 2015 in the Schützenmatt area of the city. The youngest attacker, who was only 15 years old at the time, was given a two-month conditional sentence.

The prosecution service accepted that the sentences were in accordance with the guidelines in relation to sentencing under juvenile criminal law. It felt that due consideration had to be given to the future personal development of those found guilty, an aspect which was regarded as having greater importance than the length of the sentences passed. The youths convicted will gradually have to come to terms with the dire consequences of their actions that evening for many years to come.

It has since been reported that the two of the youths convicted are to appeal against their sentences.
