Post Office to open agency in Migros store

The Post Office has announced that, after a two-year search, it has at last found a partner to accommodate an agency for it in the Old Town.

The partner in question is the Migros store on Grabenstrasse. As from spring in 2018, customers will be able to send off parcels, collect registered mail and such like, just as at any normal post office. Payments will also be able to be made there, though only with Postfinance or Maestro cards, not by cash.

As to opening times, these are, of course, the same as at the Migros store itself, namely from 8 am until 7 pm on Mondays to Fridays, and from 8 am until 5 pm on Saturdays. As Post Office spokesman Markus Flückiger confirmed, a post-box facility will also be provided, the one at Postplatz to be withdrawn.

As to why it took the Post Office so long to find the right partner for its agency, Flückiger said that finding one which was customer-friendly was of the utmost importance. In fact this is not the first time a Migros store has been chosen to house an agency, the Post Office having had very good experience with the company. For its part, the Migros company looked forward to housing the agency in its Grabenstrasse store, its staff to be trained accordingly.

This all means, of course, that the provisional agency set up in the former main post office is to close. It is here, as from Tuesday 21 November, that serviced co-working spaces run by the Zurich Office Lab company are to be made available for a two-year period. It is expected some 50 people will be working on two floors of the premises on a flexible basis, mainly in the areas of international trade, financial technology and blockchain. The co-proprietor of the Zurich-based business, Roger Krieg, said they had been looking for suitable premises in Zug for some time. “The former main post office is an attractive location,” he said, as he mentioned he had received a number of enquiries from interested parties.

Furthermore, in cooperation with the city, the company is looking to organise cultural events on the ground floor there on Friday and Saturday evenings.
