Police make checks on foreign-registered vehicles

Over the course of last week the Zug Police, in collaboration with Swiss Border Guards, made checks on foreign-registered vehicles spotted in the canton.

It was found that a number of drivers, two from Germany, two from Poland and one from Spain, all of whom had Swiss residence permits and who had been living here for over a year, had failed to register their car with Customs on arrival and failed to have their number plates changed to Swiss ones.

It was also discovered that two foreigners had not paid fines imposed on them. Furthermore, eleven drivers of the thirty vehicles checked were fined for a number of offences including failure to wear a seat belt or for carrying a load which not properly secured.

The Zug Police would like to remind all expatriates resident here that they must register vehicles they import into the country and arrange to have ZG plates fitted.

Furthermore, they must apply for a Swiss driving licence within the first year of taking up residence here.
