Open day at House of Training on Friday

The House of Training at number 1 Landis & Gyr Strasse is holding an open day on Friday 24 October between 3 pm and 7 pm.

This means visitors will have the opportunity of meeting tutors and students of no fewer than six institutes of learning housed under one roof on the site. These include the Beruf Zug, Bildungsnetz Zug (BNZ) Billdxzug, Curaviva HFK, the Integrationsbrückenangebot (IBA) and IBZ/ZTI institutes.

The ZTI (Zug Technicians and IT School) is a technical college which was founded in 2004 and where some 440 students are currently undertaking a number of IT-related courses.

The Curaviva HFK vocational school was set up the city in 2009 and trains 90 students in the area of child rearing.

The Beruf Zug (Profession Zug) is a centre for practical vocational training and provides tuition for 220 apprentices in 12 professions relating to the metalworking, electrical and engineering industries.

Bildungsnetz (Training Network) currently provides support for 100 young people as they approach completion of their vocational training.

Among other things, BildxZug organises and coordinates apprenticeship placements for VET (Vocational and Educational Training) students pursuing courses to become mediamatics and IT technicians. In fact a most informative video about them in English can be found on their website at bildxzug.ch.

IBA (Integrative Bridging Opportunities) offers bridge-year programmes, for example in helping students with a foreign background to improve their German. It will be moving into the Landis& Gyr Strasse site in spring of next year.

Visitors will also be able to find out about the "Vocational Training International" pilot project starting in summer 2015. Either through the "Way up plus" or the "Fascination of Technology" courses, students will be able to benefit from a more international approach to their studies.
