Number of road closures announced

As it is Ascension Day on Thursday 25 May, a number of pilgrims will be making their way on foot to the monastery in Einsiedeln in the neighbouring canton of Schwyz. As a result, several road closures have been announced to ensure their safety.

Both Gulmstrasse and Grodstrasse and onwards towards Moos, Zigerhüttli and Raten, and also the road between Wissenbach and Steinstoss, will be closed between 7 am and 11.30 am that day. However, access to the Raten Pass car park will be possible at all times. Motorists should be aware that access to and from Biberbrugg will only be possible via Menzingen or Sattel at the afore-mentioned times.

Like last year, the official pilgrimage will no longer start from Oberägeri using the cantonal road. Instead it will proceed on the municipal Gulm-Grod-Zigerhüttli-Raten road.

The police have asked the pilgrims to keep to the official roads and paths designated for the purpose and to follow instructions given by marshals on the route.

The police further advise those who begin their walk during the night leading up to Ascension Day to wear items of clothing with fluorescent strips to ensure they can be seen easily. Motorists are kindly asked to drive with due care on the roads affected during this time.
