New bridge for pedestrians and cyclists opened

A new bridge for pedestrians and cyclists over what will be the new Zug-Baar tangent road was opened on Saturday. This new steel bridge will mean that its users will no longer have to negotiate the construction site for the new road.

The bridge itself is 66 metres long and constructed of three parts. Locals may have noticed that the parts of it were actually positioned in place in summer by means of a special crane. In more recent weeks the remaining parts have been put in place, the lighting catually built into the construction itself.

It would also have been possible to build a subway at this location but, as Urs Hürlimann, the director of planning in Baar, explained, it was decided on a bridge to minimise any deleterious impact on the local environment.

Baar councillor Paul Langenegger added that it was well known subways were not that popular with people, who tended to avoid them, particularly at night or at other times when not used much.
