Motorcyclist seriously injured after falling off his machine

A 65-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after falling off his machine on Friday evening.

The incident, in which no other vehicle was involved, happened shortly before 7.30 pm on Chamerstrasse as the motorcyclist was proceeding towards Rotkreuz. For reasons yet unknown, the rider lost control over his machine between the railway bridge and the roundabout near Lindenmatt and fell, causing him to sustain serious injuries. He was subsequently taken to hospital by the emergency services.

The Zug Police have appealed for any witnesses to call them on 041 728 41 41.

They would also like to hear from anyone who may be able to provide them with information concerning another road traffic accident in which a driver sustained slight injuries.

This incident occurred just before noon on Friday as a 37-year-old man lost control over a white van he was driving down Aegeristrasse in Baar, causing him to end up in a field (second photograph). In this incident, too, no other vehicle was involved; however, it was noticed that a small blue vehicle was being driven uphill at the same time and the police have asked this driver to contact them on the aforementioned number.

Earlier that day, a 27-year-old driver sustained slight injuries after colliding with a set of traffic lights as he turned left into Südstrasse from Zugerstrasse in Baar. He also ended up in an adjacent field (third photograph).

When the police arrived at the scene, they subjected the Belgian driver, a resident in Switzerland, to a breathalyser test which showed he was three times over the permitted drink-driving level. In this incident, damage amounting to several tens of thousands of francs was caused.

On a related topic, the Zug Police mounted spot checks on 11 coaches as they passed through Steinhausen over a four-hour period on Friday (fourth photograph). Three drivers were found to have been at the wheel for periods longer than permitted and another was found to have been in charge of vehicle which was not in a roadworthy condition. As a result, this was taken off the road, meaning that a party of Chinese tourists had to wait while another coach was brought in to allow them to continue on their way.

While on road safety, the Zug Police announced that over the past four weeks, no fewer than 32 cyclists had been fined, and a further 50 given warnings, for cycling directly on the lake promenade between the harbour and Landsgemeindeplatz, much to the annoyance of pedestrians, rather than keeping to the designated paths.
