Man mugged by station underpass

Two men mugged a passer-by near the subway leading to the station from the Metalli shopping centre on Saturday evening.

According to police reports, the robbery took place at about 10 pm. A 31 year-old Slovakian man, who is resident in the canton, was walking along Poststrasse in the direction of the Metalli shopping centre when he was approached by two men who asked if he had a light. Just as he was getting out his lighter he was struck in the face and knocked to the ground. After a further struggle the victim noticed that the two men had run off with an envelope he had had in his back trouser pocket containing CHF 2,000 in cash.

For some reason, the victim did not report the incident to the police until Monday morning. The police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen something to help them with their enquiries by calling 041 728 41 41. All the police have to go on is that the two men were about 1.8 metres (5' 11") tall and were dressed in dark clothing.
