Landmark row of poplar trees on Artherstrasse to be felled

Six poplar trees on Artherstrasse are having to be felled because they are in a bad condition. However, they are to be replaced by six oak trees.

The trees will be felled during the course of road works between Muelibach and Brunnenbach on Artherstrasse which are due to start on Monday 6 July and continue until the end of October.

The city authorities have decided to renew this section of the road and both Swisscom and the Wasserwerke Zug utility company are taking the opportunity to lay pipes and cables. While much of the work will be completed by the end of October, as mentioned, the final surface will not be laid until next year.

The work itself will take place in stages. While it is progress an alternating one-way traffic-flow system controlled by marshals or lights will be in operation. The authorities have said that access to all properties by the road will be possible at all times, bar a few exceptions, and that additional car parking spaces will be made available.

The ZVB transport company will also be taking the opportunity to upgrade the bus stops at Kreuz. This includes making things easier for handicapped passengers. Nearby pavements will also be widened to increase safety and the street lamps at Spillhof-Brunnenbach are also due to be replaced.

Weather permitting, work will also start on resurfacing the road in the vicinity of the roundabout at Neugasse on  Saturday 4th July, which means that an alternating one-way traffic system supervised by marshals will be in operation from this time.

Work was actually undertaken near the roundabout five years ago but since this time a crack has appeared. Hence this is to be put right and indeed under the terms of the guarantee.

Work is due to start as early as 6 am on Saturday and continue until 5 am on Monday 6 July.

Markus Baggenstos, who is responsible for road maintenance in the municipality of Baar, said that access to nearby properties would be possible at all times bar a few exceptions. In order to complete the repair as soon as possible, work will continue at night and inevitably cause some noise, though efforts will be made to keep this to a minimum.

In the event of inclement weather, the work will have to be postponed until the following weekend, namely 11-13 July.
