Job Mediation Agency to launch pilot project

The level of unemployment in the canton remains at 2.3%, though this is still 1% less than the national average of 3.5%.

Over the course of 2016, the Regional Job Mediation Agency (RAV) managed to help 1,550 people to return to the world of work, 200 more than in the previous two years.

Fortunately, according to Gianni Bomio, the president of the Association of Labour Market Measures (VAM), which is responsible for the running of the RAV offices, the situation relating to unemployment in the canton remains stable; it had been thought current economic factors would have had a more negative impact than was actually the case.

Now a number of additional measures have been announced to support those looking for work. For example, those people who are currently working on employment schemes at the premises of  Halle 44 in Baar, which is also run under the auspices of the VAM, will be assessed in a number of areas, such as in the skills they have in their chosen field of work, in computing, in various aspects of language, in how they go about applying for jobs and in how they might increase their levels of self-confidence. Where any shortfalls are found, staff will be on hand to help. While such help has been given before, what is new is that many of these skills will be able to be learned directly from a computer. Initially this will be in German only, but help in five other languages will ensue.

What is important is that those who know they are to be made redundant at some time in the future begin to look for alternative employment forthwith rather than leave it until the final day in their current job. This applies to those who may have found a job in temporary employment, too.

One other service the VAM is planning to provide is one where a member of staff will be on hand during fixed office hours to offer individual advice to those facing unemployment. It is at such sessions where, for example, help in how to write a curriculum vitae or on how to prepare for an interview may be given.
